How do I...?

Is there a toggle for case-sensitive?

I know that the search function is not case-sensitive, but uploading records to the database seems to be. We use email address as a unique identifier when uploading new info and will always end up with duplicate records when someone enters their email address differently than previous. For example, Ta305@gmail.com versus ta305@gmail.com would create a dupe.

Is there a toggle somewhere to tell the DB to ignore upper case?

To confirm here, you are correct in your findings. Import to Updates require an exact case-sensitive match to the Record ID of the record you are mapping your update to. This cannot be changed at this time, however there is a quick workaround that may be helpful in this scenario. The goal is convert your email addresses to be completely uppercase in both TrackVia and your import file to ensure that they always match. First, you would need to added a triggered or calculated text field to your table with the following formula:

    upper({Your Email Field})

This formula will convert all of your email addresses to uppercase. You can then set this new field as your Record ID so that it is used for your import mappings.

From here you just need to get the email addresses in your import file to be uppercase as well. I believe this can be achieved a few ways in Excel, but the quicker way I have found is to use the UPPER text function, which looks like this:

    =UPPER(your fields)

Now that your TrackVia table and your import file both contain strictly uppercase values you should avoid any case sensitivity issues.

I hope this is helpful. If you have any further questions regarding this solution or if we can field any further questions, please let us know.
