Views w/ Grouping is WAY to .. Group-ey
I'd been testing out the "Classic" TrackVia righrt as they switched over, so I've been re-testing with the new ... bigger, better, faster TrackVia.
In the new version, when you create a View, and group that view by a field, you end up with something *VERY* different than in "Classic" TrackVia.
In "Classic" View-- you have something that closely follows what one might see in a Spreadsheet report --- you can actually SEE all of your records, which are SUBTLY grouped by your chosen field.
In "New"-- you're presented with a summary view, all collapsed, so you don't see any record details. And then, one by one, you can expand each group -- which is annoying in itself -- but even if you go and expand everything (maybe an EXPAND ALL would be useful), your records are so VISUALLY separated from one another ... separated by an awful amount of white-space, separated by your field headers repeated over and over and over for each group section ... that it becomes pretty unusable as anything but a summary/aggregate calculation view. You actually can no longer, at a glance, view a bunch of your records.
Bad bad bad bad.
Anyone else smell me on this one?
I'm encountering the very same issue as I migrate from Classic to 'New'. Have you found a workaround ? AND, no update since Sept 2014 ???
Also No calendar format views, and no Public views. This isn't ready for Classic Migration. imho

Has there been any further discussion on this topic?
It was very useful to be able to save a view with expanded groups
Adjustments to Group names that don't save is a known issue that our engineers are working to resolve. We understand the importance of being able to adjust the columns when viewing your data. We will keep you in the loop on any updates for this issue.
Nesting groups within a group is a great suggestion and would be a nice feature in TrackVia. I will pass this request to our development team as well and can keep you in the loop with any updates, too.

A small point related to this. When I try to resize a group name then save the view - the column width returns to the original width immediately after saving.
Also, is there any likelihood of being able to have nested group-by groups? At the moment you can have multiple group-bys and they simply concatenate (which is certainly useful in many instances), but the ability to have nested groups is also quite useful when one is trying to drill down amongst a large number of complex groupings.

We certainly see how searching in a grouped would be beneficial and cut back on the time it takes to find a single record. We will pass this request on to the product team and keep you in the loop with updates! As always, thank you for your feedback!
Add to this: Once the view has been sorted, the "search" functionality becomes unavailable. I have tables that must be sorted to make some sense of the many thousands of records, but I still need to search for specific results. If I could search within a grouping, it would be very helpful. If I could search the entire table and have the results of the search grouped according the the stored formatting for the view, it would be great--and I would not need to manage and to use two separate views to accomplish one task.

It's not just all expanded vs all collapsed.
The nature of the grouped view in NEW vs OLD TrackVia is completely changed. In the new version, you have headers repeating in each group, you only do calcuations (such as sum totals) within the group but not for the entire list of records ...
... and not only are you repeating headers, but you repeat footers for each group -- so the overall effect is really awful from a UX design perspective. If I compare old vs new view in my test app, in the new view, on the first page (i.e. above the fold), of 22 rows of visual stuff, only 5 rows are my actual DATA. So what you're looking at is 78% "chrome" and 12% my data (i.e. the stuff that's actually important).
As opposed to the same thing in the OLD view style: of 25 rows of stuff, 16 is my data. So 36% chrome, 64% my data.
It's all a wee bit maddening.

Thanks for the feedback David! We'll take another pass at that presentation and see what we can do.
Keep the feedback coming! Thx!

You have a very good point. It can be useful to see all your records collapsed into groups, but there are definitely times when you would like to see all the records expanded. I would be happy to raise this concern to our product team. Thank you for your input!
