August 2016 Release Notes

More Maps!

Attention map fans!

We’ve just added lots more map support. As you know, our previous maps functionality only allowed you to add location when adding a new record, with this release you can now import, add, edit and map Latitude and Longitude data points as well. Check out the overview video - and we've got more detail below.

To import: make sure you have a location field in your table. Then when you import, simply pass in a latitude & longitude, comma separated (e.g. 40.785091,-73.968285) and select your location field to import into. We support ‘signed degrees format (DDD.dddd)’ which pinpoints location within 1 millimeter.

Editing on web: your location field will automatically show as a map, and immediately below you’ll see your lat and long fields that you can edit.

Editing on mobile - iOS: after navigating to the record, tap on the map to expand it full screen, then tap & hold to pick up the pin and move it.

Editing on mobile - Android: after navigating to the record, tap on the map to expand full screen, then you can just tap on the map where you’d like to move the pin to and it will jump over.

Mapping on web: within the hamburger menu on any view that contains a location field, just select ‘maps’ from the menu and then save it as a new view.

Mapping on mobile: From any view that has location information, just tap on the map icon at the top of the screen to show all of your records on a map.

IMPORTANT! Remember that all ‘location at creation’ fields are red, all other location fields are blue.

One more thing…

You can also do distance calculations between fields.

  1. In table builder, grab a calculated number
  2. Use distance({location1},{location2},”mi”) as your formula (switch "mi" for "km" for kilometers)
  3. Profit!

Ok but really, one last thing...

The TrackVia API now has updated SDKs which supports this new maps feature!  You can read more about our API Here
Happy mapping!
