Getting Started
What is the TrackVia MCP?
It lets an AI assistant, such as Claude, read and work with your TrackVia apps when you ask it in everyday language.
Which AI tools does it work with?
The TrackVia MCP currently works with:
- Claude
- ChatGPT
- Microsoft Copilot
- Gemini
- Antigravity
- Perplexity
How do I connect it?
You sign in through OAuth from the AI tool you use. Each tool connects a little differently, so follow the guide for yours.
Does it cost extra, and which plans include it?
No. The TrackVia MCP is available to all customers on all plans.
How is this different from a chatbot?
A chatbot usually runs inside a single product and only knows about that product. The TrackVia MCP instead connects TrackVia to the AI tool you already use, so the AI can work with TrackVia alongside the other tools and connections you have set up there.
Security and Trust
Can the AI see or do anything I can't?
No. The AI acts as you, the user who connected it, and has exactly the permissions your TrackVia role gives you.
Where does my data go? Does the AI company train on it?
Your data passes through the AI tool you use, and your terms with that vendor apply. TrackVia does not use customer data to train AI tools under any circumstances.
Can an admin turn the MCP off for our account, or limit who uses it?
The owners or admins of your AI tool (Claude, ChatGPT, and so on) control whether your users can connect to the TrackVia MCP, using that tool's own admin settings.
If you want to make sure no one in your TrackVia account can connect to the TrackVia MCP, or you have other concerns about who can connect, email productmanagement@trackvia.com.
Does it work with SSO?
Yes. If your account uses a custom subdomain with SSO turned on, users who connect to the MCP through that subdomain sign in with SSO before the connection is made.
What It Can and Can't Do
Can it delete records?
No. The TrackVia MCP does not include any tools for deleting records.
Can it assign users to roles?
No. It can create a role, but it cannot yet manage users automatically, including assigning them to roles.
Can I use it with a sandbox account?
Yes. You can point it at a specific sandbox by giving its account ID when you first connect.
Why does the AI sometimes say it can't do something?
There are two common reasons:
- The capability isn't available through the MCP yet. Not everything you can do in TrackVia is available through the MCP. See the list of TrackVia MCP tools for what's currently supported. The list will keep growing.
- Your role doesn't allow it. The AI can only do what your TrackVia role allows. For example, if a Limited User asks the AI to create a new table, the request is blocked on purpose, because a Limited User can't create tables in TrackVia either.
Safety and Accountability
Can I undo something the AI did?
No, there is no undo. Try new or risky work in a sandbox account first.
How do I tell AI changes apart from human ones?
Changes made through the MCP appear under the connected user's name in the change history, so you can always trace a change back to a specific user.
Is there a limit on how much it can do at once?
Yes. Bulk updates are capped at 1,000 records per request, and rate limits apply to protect the stability of the system.
