What are Dashboards?
A dashboard is the visual "home screen" of an app: a configurable page, built by the app's builder or admin, that pulls together different types of resources. Those resources are typically charts and graphs summarizing data, grid views views (filtered lists of records), and forms or links that let users act on data without navigating elsewhere. Dashboards are usually assigned by role, so different types of users can open the same app and land on a page built around what they need.
Why are Dashboards Important?
It's the first thing users see. For most end users, the dashboard is the app. They may never think in terms of tables, fields, or relationships. They just see their work.
It shortens the path to action. Embedded views and forms mean users can find what needs attention and act on it from one place. Fewer clicks and less navigation mean faster adoption, fewer errors, and fewer "where do I find…" questions.
Role-based dashboards make the app feel personal. Tailoring dashboards by user group keeps each person focused on their own responsibilities. It also quietly reinforces permissions, because people aren't confronted with data that isn't theirs.
It drives adoption. When people get value from the dashboard every day, they keep using the app, and your data stays complete and current.
