Charts Overview
Charts are a great way to visualize the data contained in your Views in different, meaningful ways. Check out this article to learn more about creating Charts in TrackVia.
To change a Grid View into a Chart, edit the view and navigate to the "Format" tab (highlighted in a yellow box below), and on the lefthand side of the page toggle the View from a Grid to a Chart by selecting the blue and white Chart icon (see green box below).
The available Chart Types are shown to the right (see red box below), and you can hover your cursor over each Chart Type to see the name of each type and a dropdown of any additional Chart options for that type. For example, in the screenshot below you can see the dropdown of options for Column Charts: Non-Stacked Column Chart, and Stacked Column Chart.
The available Chart Type options are:
-
Line Charts (standard Line Chart, Smooth Line Chart, and Bar & Line Combo Chart): Line Charts are used to show changes in a dataset over time.
-
Pie Charts (standard Pie Chart, and 3D Pie Chart): Pie Charts are great for comparing a small number of categories to show each category's relative proportion or percentage of a total amount.
-
Bar Charts (Non-Stacked, and Stacked): Bar Charts are used to compare a small number of categories to highlight the differences between them such as comparing sales figures across various product lines.
-
Area Charts (Non-Stacked, Stacked, and Stepped): Area Charts are essentially line charts that have the area below the line filled in. They are used to highlight trends in data, and change over time.
-
Column Charts (Non-Stacked, and Stacked): Column Charts are the most commonly used Chart Type, and they are used to compare values for different categories or compare value changes over a period of time for a single category.
-
Scatter Chart: Scatter Charts are used to visualize trends and show the relationship between values in a dataset.
-
Bubble Chart: Bubble Charts are used to visualize relationships between three variables, or to showcase trends in your data.
-
Gantt Chart: Gantt charts are used for scheduling projects, and planning resource allocations.
-
Pareto Chart: Pareto charts are used to identify and prioritize problems by showing the relative frequency of issues. They are a useful tool for quality control, decision-making, and communicating the importance of problems.
View Types Overview
Aside from the standard Grid View and the various Chart options in TrackVia, there are a handful of specialty view types that allow you to organize and display your records in unique ways. These view types are:
-
Pivot Views: Pivot Views are useful when you have many data points to aggregate, for comparing subsets of data, and identifying trends. You can create one, or two-dimensional Pivot Views to summarize your data. Below is an example of a two-dimensional Pivot View that breaks down the Expenses by Department:
-
Lanes Views: A Lanes View is useful for visualizing a business process that involves more than one department, or has many stages and/or steps to go through in order to be completed. Lanes Views consist of categories represented by vertical columns called Lanes and the records in the view appear as Cards that can be moved from one lane to another.
Below is an example of a Lanes View that shows project "Tasks" and their status:
-
Map Views: Using a Location field you can plot data points as pins on a Map using either a street address or Latitude and Longitude coordinates:
-
Timeline | Calendar Views: Timeline | Calendar Views are very useful for planning and project tracking purposes. If you are tracking anything that has a Start Date and an End Date such as upcoming projects or tasks that need to be completed, you can visualize them on a Timeline or Calendar View:
