Preview As

This article is specific to the updated TrackVia UI released in Fall 2026

Preview As lets you see the app the way a specific role or user sees it, without changing your own permissions or logging out. This article covers what it is, what it's used for, who has access, and how to use it.

What Is This?

Preview As is a control in the top navigation bar (next to your profile icon) that temporarily renders the app's dashboards, views, and forms the way a user in a chosen role would see them — including their permission-based restrictions — while you stay logged in under your own account.

What Is This Used For?

Use Preview As to:

• Confirm a role sees the right dashboards, views, and fields before publishing a permission or layout change.
• Troubleshoot a support ticket by reproducing exactly what a user reports seeing (or not seeing).
• QA a new app or workflow across roles before rolling it out.

Who Can Do This?

Preview As is only available to admin-level users — limited users don't see this control.

How To Use It

1. Open the app you want to preview.
2. Click Preview as in the top navigation bar, next to your profile icon.
3. Choose the role view you want to see.
4. Browse dashboards, views, and forms as that role.
   
5. Click Exit preview (or select Preview as again) to return to your own view.
