TrackVia Forms Modernization Update
What’s New in Forms?
TrackVia’s Forms are evolving! We’ve modernized the look and feel of Forms throughout the system as the first part of a multi-phase project to improve end-user experience and functionality across our Forms product.
All the currently supported functionality you know and love in Forms is still intact, with the following highlights of some of the exciting changes coming your way with this release:
Modernized Visual Design & Enhanced User Experience
Modernized input and section design
We’ve made enhancements to the visual design of both form sections and form inputs, using more rounded corners, a modern font, and updated border coloring.
Consistent iconography set for maximum readability
We’ve integrated a consistent iconography set, ensuring that all icons are uniform in size, stroke weight, and placement. This enhancement to visual consistency reduces cognitive load for end-users, ensuring that users’ attention is spent where needed.
Field-level input enhancements
We’ve redesigned all inputs to reduce visual clutter and optimize for usability and data entry speed. Some particular field types that received major upgrades are listed below!
Date & Time: We’ve modernized and simplified the date & time picker, allowing users to specify date & time information in one seamless experience.

File Upload: We’ve modernized the file upload field input to better guide user upload, preview, and download behavior.

Read-only Fields: We’ve redesigned read-only fields so their functionality and how they differ from other inputs are more visually clear.

Location Fields: We’ve updated the location field so that the map is now hidden by default to reduce clutter. We also updated the lat/long portion of the input to accept a variety of formats, including:
- Decimal Degrees (DD)
- Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds (DMS)
- Degrees and Decimal Minutes (DDM)

Link to Parent Fields: We have collapsed action items on Link to Parent Fields on smaller screen sizes to ensure the field value is readable. Note that on larger screen sizes, sub-action buttons will be fully displayed.

Text Widgets on Forms have been updated to support up to 65K characters to support more robust instructions, particularly for Public Web Forms.
Intuitive button placement
We’ve anchored the save button at the bottom right of the page. This adjustment aligns with natural eye flow patterns for a more intuitive submission process for end users and reduces scroll time.
Improved Performance
Expedited load times
We’ve made enhancements to Form performance, improving Form loading speed, particularly on complex Forms with many Link to Parent, Dependent Drop Downs, and Multi-Select Fields.
Optimal performance across device sizes
We’ve made changes to ensure that Forms render and re-size smoothly, across multiple device types and screen sizes, including handheld devices.
Meeting Legal Accessibility Requirements
Ensuring all Forms meet AA-Level WCAG 2.1 Compliance Standards:
We’ve updated the baseline look and feel of Forms to improve overall readability and accessibility, ensuring that all the Forms you create are AA-Level WCAG 2.1 compliant. Custom background section colors and custom text colors are automatically adjusted to ensure that all text has sufficient contrast ratios to be readable while maintaining the ability to visually differentiate Form sections with custom coloring.

Improved keyboard navigation
We've improved keyboard navigation in Forms and complex inputs to aid data entry for people with various disabilities, particularly those who cannot use a mouse due to motor impairments or visual impairments.
What’s Fixed in Forms?
- We improved the load times for Form fields with Show/Hide rules applied to them.
- We fixed a situation causing issues with users utilizing a Form at the exact same time it is being edited by an Admin.
- We fixed an issue with setting custom colors on Gantt charts.
- We fixed an issue with Link to Parent Fields to ensure that search and add icons are no longer erroneously displayed on read-only Link to Parent Fields. Only the open record icon is shown.
- We fixed an issue with Quick Filters not always filtering properly when filtering on checkbox fields.
- When navigating into a record from a large view, we fixed behavior so that when you navigate back to the view you are taken to the most recent set of results you were previously on, not back to the beginning of the view results.
- We fixed an issue with the Results screen showing incorrect results after importing data in some scenarios.
Overall, these combined changes should all yield Forms that also load and respond faster, contributing to a more delightful experience for end users & admins alike!
Limited User Access to Sandboxes
User Acceptance Testing (UAT) is a critical part of any new application launch, new workflow rollout, or app update. For that reason, we’re thrilled to offer more opportunities to bring your end-users closer to the application development lifecycle by allowing Limited User Access to Sandboxes.
Now, with this feature enabled in your account, all Limited Users will see the option to navigate to account sandboxes via their User dropdown:
If multiple sandboxes exist, the user will be presented with a list to choose which sandbox to log into.
For Super Admin and App Admin, we’ve added the ability to quickly access a sandbox from the User dropdown, as well. All functionality for creating, editing, and promoting sandboxes is now available under the “Manage Sandboxes” link.
Sandbox Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I change the role that a Limited User is in so that they can test a new role in a Sandbox?
A: Yes. Limited Users will always log into a Sandbox and see that Sandbox from the perspective of whatever role their user has been assigned to within that Sandbox, regardless of their role in Production. This allows your citizen developers to assign users to a new role in a Sandbox for testing changes prior to those changes occurring in the production app. Limited Users are not allowed to “impersonate” another user in Sandboxes and are always given the explicit permissions associated with their user in the Sandbox.
Q: Can I block Limited Users from being able to access Sandboxes?
A: No, at this time we are allowing Limited Users to access any Sandboxes that have been created. By definition Limited Users can only update record data, not make changes to app structure, so this does not jeopardize your ability to track and promote changes to production as needed.
Q: What’s the best way to capture User Acceptance Testing feedback from my users?
A: This is a great question! Building a simple feedback Dashboard in the Sandbox and instructing your users to confirm that they have reviewed changes is an easy way to ensure that all feedback stays collected in one place in-app and users don’t have to jump out to email for changes to business-critical workflow.
Note: This functionality is also available for testing changes on the native iOS and Android applications. To learn more about those features click here: iOS, Android.
