Views are one of the most powerful components of the TrackVia platform, but when you're faced with so many customization options it's easy to rely on a handful of familiar favorites while overlooking certain features that could take your Views to the next level!
In this episode of Pro Tips, I'll cover 3 easy ways you can tweak your Views to improve your user experience, and make your life easier!
#1 - Docking a Column
Raise your hand if you've found yourself scrolling through a large View to find the field you need, then you scroll further to check some other field, but by the time you find it you've forgotten what was in the first field and have to scroll back through everything to find it again. Annoying, right?
Thankfully, there's an easy way to avoid this headache by Docking the columns that you want to always keep on your screen while scrolling! Pick a column and hover your cursor over the field name and the Field Options gear icon will appear with the options of "Hide Column," "Dock Column,", and "Add to Sort". Docking a Column "freezes" that column so that it will always be visible on the left while you scroll through the View:
#2 - Group your Grid Views
Seeing all the data in Grid Views is nice, but all that information can look a bit overwhelming. You can tidy up your Grid Views by grouping records in the View together. In this example, I am grouping the “Project Task” records by the “Project” field. That way, I can see how many “Project Task” records are associated with each Project at a glance, and click on a Project to see those Tasks.
#3 - Customize Charts
When you’re creating a Chart, don’t forget to customize it! The customization options differ for each Chart type, but I’ll use a Line Chart as an example.
To customize your Chart, edit the View and navigate to the Format tab which defaults to the Basic Formatting options. Click the “Customize” tab and from there you can enter a title and label the axes; change the legend position, point size, line width, reverse it, and edit the minimum and maximum values shown on the axes.
You can also change the colors of your Chart by opening the View Options menu and selecting “Change Colors”.
